This trek is challenging but highly rewarding, ideal for those who want an authentic Himalayan experience. You should have a good baseline fitness level, be ready for daily hikes of 5 to 6 hours, and comfortable with elevation up to 5,643 meters (18,513 feet).
Moderate to demanding. Long days of typically 5 to 7 hours, over 12 to 16 days, on rocky and uneven terrain at high altitudes. Non-technical but requires strong cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, flexibility, and mental resilience. Training with a loaded backpack (10 to 15 pounds), hill work, and strength training for 3 to 6 months beforehand is recommended.
Helpful but not required. Experienced guides and training resources support trekkers at all levels.
Acclimatization days are built in at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. Guides monitor symptoms continuously. In emergencies, descent is prioritized. Some participants use acetazolamide (Diamox) under medical supervision.
Hiking boots with ankle support, moisture-wicking layers, insulated jacket, thermal base layers, gloves, trekking poles, sleeping bag (or rental), daypack. A full checklist is provided upon registration.
Yes. Three meals per day while trekking, local lodge accommodations, and four nights in Kathmandu hotels before and after.
